Deftones are finally letting out word of release their new album this winter as a follow-up to their 2012 record Koi No Yokan.
In an interview in January with guitarist Stephen Carpenter shared that Deftones were going to jump into the studio once the world tour ended. I ended up going to the November 2013 show in Hollywood. Check out a playlist I replicated on Spotify.
“…We’re supposed to be going in to record it next month, but we’re taking it as it goes. I mean, we’re not all the way ready now, but we’ve still got time and we’re working on it,” Carpenter said.
It has long been awaited that they would release Eros which was in progress when Chi Cheng was involved in his accident. Lead Singer, Chino Moreno, has long since hesitated releasing the album only releasing tracks from it here and there.
“I get asked about that record a lot. For a while, I was giving the same answer, ‘No, no, no, no, no, no, no.’ After Chi’s passing, I went back and listened to some of the record and it was a pretty intense experience, to say the least.”
“I think it should be released, but we don’t have any definite plans. There’s some work to do on it. Deftones have been moving forward in a strong, positive motion, so for us to stop and reflect on something five years ago, I don’t know if we’re ready for that,” Moreno said in a previous interview.
The new album still unnamed (maybe Eros?) is planned for release at the end of 2015, with a Summer 2016 hopefully to follow!!
